Beat the heat with Water

The Health Ministry advises people to consume more water as the country experiences warm weather conditions. The advice followed medical experts warning the ministry that the ongoing warm weather could lead to unexpected health problems.

A large number of paddy farmers engaged in the harvesting their fields in the dry zone districts of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Moneragala, had visited rural hospitals complaining of shivering.

The medical experts found that the condition had been caused by dehydration. An increase in the number seeking medical treatment had compelled the ministry to advise the public to drink more water, Health Ministry media spokesman W. Wanninayake said.

He said that ministry had contacted the Met Department, which revealed the ongoing dry weather would last at least one more month.
